7 Skincare Changes You Should Be Making in 2022

We have officially bid 2020 a long-awaited goodbye and welcomed a brand new year with high hopes. For most people, the beginning of a new year is equivalent to a fresh start which can also motivate people to want to start improving their lives and making major changes for the year.

But instead of aiming for something big (that for sure will be forgotten after the first month of the year), why not aim for something a little easier to achieve? Like taking better care of your skin by making skincare changes and forming good skincare habits.

If taking better care of your skin is something that you’re already working on or something you’re ready to start doing, then this list of skincare changes will help you in your journey to healthy and youthful-looking skin.

1. Wash your face before bed.

One of the most common skincare mistakes that we make is sleeping with our makeup on. This is such an easy mistake to make especially when we’re very tired after a long day or a night of partying/drinking and can’t be bothered to make our way to the bathroom to remove all the makeup on our face. But this bad habit is also what causes skin problems such as acne and even premature aging.

2. Stop over-exfoliating.

And then there are some who religiously wash their face every morning and night, but also believe that the more (or harder) you exfoliate, the cleaner and more radiant your skin becomes. This could not be farther from the truth and is also a harmful practice.

That tightness and waxy texture you think is a “healthy glow” is actually from stripping away skin cells and natural oils and is, in reality, very dry and exposed to environmental pollutants.

Remember that exfoliation should not be a part of your daily skincare routine. You only need to exfoliate 1 to 2 times weekly and stick to a gentle exfoliant rather than abrasive ones.

3. Stay hydrated.

Staying hydrated daily is crucial to our health. According to the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, the daily recommended water intake is 2.7 liters (11.5 cups) for women and 3.7 liters (15.5) for men. It is worth noting that aside from water, these numbers also include fluids we get from beverages such as juice and teas, as well as from the food that we eat.

That being said, the amount of water we need also depends on many factors such as age, diet, environment, and health.

Drinking enough water everyday helps in delivering nutrients and oxygens to our cells, balances our body’s pH levels, aids in proper digestion (which means healthy gut), as well as prevents premature aging due to the heightened elasticity in our skin.

4. Don’t forget your SPF.

Another common mistake we make is not wearing sunscreen daily. We have associated sunscreen with summer and summer vacation so it’s somewhat understandable how some people would only consider wearing sunscreen during summer, but the truth is, whatever season or weather it is, wearing sunscreen is a must if you want to keep your skin looking youthful.

You can make your morning beauty routine easier by applying Spalina’s Mineral Tinted SPF 40 Sunscreen; it gives you the sun protection and coverage you need. Talk about hitting two birds with one stone!

5. Start using serums.

Serums are highly concentrated formulations designed to rapidly skink into the skin, delivering a potent dose of active ingredients that can address a variety of common skin care problems such as dark spots, dull skin, and wrinkles.

The difference between moisturizers and serums is that serums are less thicker than moisturizers, and while moisturizers tend to sit on the top layer of the skin, the serums can permeate the skin and hydrate it more effectively.

Spalina Skincare carries a variety of serums that can address whatever skin concerns you have. One popular serum is the Epidermal Repair Serum which permanently repairs age spots, acne, melasma, and more; it’s a must-have revitalizing serum for virtually all skin types!

6. Use skincare products that fit your skin type.

It’s easy to jump on the bandwagon and buy every skincare products beauty magazines or influencers promote, but if you really want to see results, it’s better and less expensive in the long run to purchase skincare products that actually fit your skin type and needs.

If you find it overwhelming and time-consuming to read and research about every ingredient listed on the packaging, then it’s advisable to consult an esthetician to help you find the best solution for your skin.

At Spalina Skincare, we also care about your health and safety during this pandemic which is why we offer a virtual consultation for those who can’t do an in-person appointment.

7. Consult an esthetician.

If you are not seeing an esthetician yet, then consulting one should be something to consider in 2021 as they can significantly help you improve your skin.
